Pensions 2026: How the "Fourteenth Salary" Works and Who Receives It

April 2026

In July, many pensioners will receive a pleasant surprise in their pension statement – an extra income to help cover summer expenses. And if you need a little more, we'll tell you about an exclusive benefit for retirees.

Fourteenth salary for pensioners

With the arrival of the good weather, pensioners can access an exclusive financial advantage. At a time when inflation is squeezing budgets and money never seems to go far enough, this solution can ease financial worries.

It's best to prepare in advance for the upcoming changes in your pension statement, so you can manage your finances calmly and, why not, treat yourself to a little extra during the summer.

What is the "Fourteenth Salary"?

It is an additional payment for pensioners that appears on the July statement, or in some cases in December. It's like an extra "bonus" that helps cover typical seasonal expenses.

Who is eligible?

The following individuals can receive the fourteenth salary:

  • Pensioners who have reached at least 64 years of age in 2026 with an individual annual income not exceeding €15,908.10.
  • Retirees who belong to the general scheme (AGO).
  • People receiving a pension based on seniority, old age, disability, or early retirement.
  • Holders of a survivor's pension (widowhood) under certain conditions.
  • Beneficiaries of pensions from the abolished INPGI, also under specific requirements.

Is the fourteenth salary not enough for your plans and do you need more liquidity? Thanks to the INPS Agreement in effect since January 1, 2023, certain categories of pensioners can request loans that are deducted in small installments directly from their pension through entities that adhere to the agreement.
